What are telehealth devices?


Telehealth devices are medical instruments used in the operation room during surgery. It has a camera to record the surgery for legal purposes, which is also used for medical consultation with other surgeons in real time with the help of the screen onboard.

The device was required to have an onboard computer, batteries, a 21.5" display with visual recording capabilities. It also needed to be collapsible in case of transport between hospitals.

The operation room

During our factory visit to Çizgi Teknoloji we got a chance to see their "replica operation room" this influenced my studies about form factor.

Production capabilities

Çizgi Teknoloji wanted to produce these devices with their own machine parkour. This meant I could only use vacuum forming and sheet metal.

Conceptional Map

Starting, I had no idea about medical design. I made some conceptional maps to grasp users' perception

1/10 sketches

1/10 sketches acted as quick trials for interior space usage

1/10 models

3D printed 1/10 models gave me ideas about motion and weight balance

1/5 sketches

After balance testing I went back to sketching with a bigger scale

1/5 white model

I made white models to test for balance again. The bulkier design was eleminated

1/1 mock up

I made a 250 cm 1/1 model as a final mock up. This one was tested for mobility, ergonomics and balance
