What is Dia?

Dia is a conceptual autonomous robot that delivers coffee. It would be used in places such as airports and offices where the terrain is easy to manage. Also, Arzum would use the robot to promote the Okka brand coffee makers.

The focus is on airport use, as finding something to eat or drink in the airport can be difficult and time-consuming.

Origins

Design Cues

Okka's design served as the starting point for the project. Okka "Minio" and "Rich Spin" were the main inspirations for me

User Experience

A smooth coffee experience means Dia would interact with many stakeholders. This system map helped me to think holistically

Process

Trend Research

Robotics is a fast-paced industry. I analyzed the trends and made a moodboard accordingly

Basic Sketches

Quick sketches helped me clarify the dimensions for the product

Colored Sketches

Detailed and colored sketches were made to decide on a semi-final form

CAD and refinement

CAD modelling in Rhino helped me visualize the product and iterate on details.

Mechanics

I designed mechanisms and plan the interior layout to ensure electronics and consumables fit inside

CMF

A quick CMF study showed me how changes in color could effect the final product.

User Interaction

Browse the menu

The user opens the app to browse through the menu.

Check the ETA

The user checks the calculated ETA and order details.

Payment

The Payment is confirmed by the system.

If your coffee is ready

The robot finds the user and the user scans the QR code on the robot using the app.

If your coffee is not ready

The user waits for the coffee if the robot cannot finish the preparation before arrival

After the QR

A “Ready” message is shown on the display and the hatch opens for the coffee to be taken out.

Coffee is taken

When the load sensors determine the coffee is taken out the hatch closes back and the robot goes away.
